Sustainability & AI: The development of AI and its rapid growth has implications for sustainability at multiple scales and across a variety of dimensions. Since generative AI hit the scene, there has been a surge in media coverage about these impacts. What are the issues, why do we care about them, and how do we make sense of it all? Shane Stennes, Chief Sustainability Officer for the University, will join Code People to talk about the intersection of AI and sustainability. Through presentation and discussion with the group, he’ll surface information to enrich and contextualize our understanding about AI’s environmental and societal impacts. He’ll also offer his perspective on ways to frame these issues and how AI might impact University sustainability goals.
