Workshop on Git and GitHub

Code People Committee

This will be a hands-on virtual workshop to learn the basics of command-line (CLI) Git and UMN GitHub. After a brief introduction, participants will be divided into small groups and will work through the exercises at their own pace. Committee members will be present to help and we will take breaks and check in with the participants in the room. The workshop material is based on the Git-It tutorials (https://github.com/jlord/git-it-electron#git-it-desktop-app).

Optional preparation for the workshop

  1. Install Git Desktop. Installing Git Desktop will also install the git command line interface (CLI) which will be used in the workshop.
  2. Sign in to UMN Enterprise GitHub with your UMN account and take a look around.
  3. Familiarize yourself with Git and GitHub terminology
  4. Review the GitHub workflow
